More fun at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Essex! I get so nervous singing by myself! Even without having to try to play guitar, too! Not enough breath support to nail this but perhaps it adds some character? Being nervous and doing it anyway adds character, right?

Thank you, Ken Phelps! Had a wonderful time at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Essex yesterday. Got to sing one of my favorites, Joseph, by Georges Moustaki, in French. It's a beautiful and thoughtful lens through which to imagine the humanness of Joseph, husband of Mary. Here's the story:

Look what happened, my old Joseph, because of your having taken the prettiest among the girls of Galilee, the one called Mary.

You could have, my old Joseph, taken Sarah, or Deborah,

And nothing would have come of it. But you preferred Mary.

You could have, my old Joseph, stayed at home, carving your wood, instead of going into exile, and hiding with Mary.

Advent marks the beginning of the Church year. During the Lenten season of 2024, we ended us doing Jackson Browne's These Day. Looks for that video. 🙂

I LOVE this powerful, moving song about a death row inmate headed to meet his maker. An appropriate song for Lent, especially Holy Week, as we watch with Jesus as he prepares to head to his. Thanks to the Rev. Ken Phelps for doing such a beautiful job singing this. And thanks to my friend Chuck Dorman of the @thebigstickyband for introducing it to me years ago.
